Vegetable Ivory Thimble Case and Thimble
Vegetable Ivory is made from the seeds of nuts of the South American Palm Tree. This nut was first called the COROZO or Ivory Nut. After exposure to light, the seed takes on a honey colour. This carved needle case is shaped like an acorn. The top unscrews to reveal a shaft inside the lower part of the case to hold the thimble upright. A brass thimble with a Greek key band is enclosed included in the sale (the other thimble is just to indicate size). The case is in good condition but there is an 0.5cm nick in the lower edge of the rim under the carved edge of the lid. It does not detract from the appearance. The thimble is in excellent condition. Measurements: Width top – 1 ¼ inches (3 cm): Length – 2 inches (5 cm).
