This small mechanical pencil telescopes out from its case by pulling on a slider ring. The shell or outer ornamental covering has a chased foliate and bird design. There is a ring or bail at the top end used to hang the pencil from a chain. The barrel or body of the pencil has the mark for S Mordan & Co. dating it to after the 1860s. S Mordan and Co. specialised in sterling silver mechanical pencils and pens and the firm was in business in London from 1815 to 1941. This pencil is in excellent condition with no damage and slides well.
