WMF Napkin Ring with Flower Holder
This metal napkin ring is decorated with a pattern of berries on stems. The delicate crystal flower holder has a fluted pattern and is shaped like a flower. This item is illustrated in Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork - WMF 1906 which is based on a reproduction of the WMF catalogue for 1906 and produced by the Antique Collectors Club. It is listed as number 152 on page 17 and is described as Napkin Ring with Flower Holder. It has this number 152 impressed on the base. It is hallmarked with the WMF Ostrich sign, B - Brittania metal, I/O - regular silver coating and OX - Oxidized. The firm WMF - Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik - was established in Esslingen and moved to Geislingen, Germany in 1880. WMF became strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau style between 1900 and 1914. The firm used silver electroplating techniques known as "perfect hard silver plating". A glassworks section was introduced in 1883. The plating is in excellent condition and there are no chips or cracks to the vase.
