Brass Nanny Brooch
This is a typical brass nanny brooch. It could be used as an emergency sewing set but was usually worn by the nanny as a badge of office rather than for actual sewing. The brooch was patented in 1895 and was very popular during the Edwardian era. It has a central synthetic goldstone and a brass leaf on either side. One end of the brooch unscrews and a cylinder pulls out which would have held the sewing implements - a needle and pin with thread. There is an impressed mark DRGM268036. It has a straight bar pin and C clasp. The inner cylinder is slightly rusted and has remnants of some thread. It could be cleaned up but we will leave that to the new owner. Otherwise it is in good condition with no damage. Measurement: Length – 1 ¾ inches (4.5 cm).
