Doulton Lambeth Mottoes Jug This heavy stoneware jug is a very unusual and striking piece of Doulton Lambeth. The jug is decorated with a pattern of four circles with an embossed head in each, on opposite sides with what appear to be satyrs, and with a Roman soldier and perhaps a goddess in the others. Around each are appliquéd printed words forming the verse " Straight is the line of duty, Curved is the line of beauty, Follow the straight line thou shalt see, The curved line ever follow thee". The base has an impressed Doulton Lambeth mark with England dating the piece to between 1891 and 1902. There are several impressed printed initials, numbers and letters but they are difficult to make out. There is an impressed pattern number 44921. The jug is in excellent condition with no damage and rings very well. Measurements: Height – 7 ¾ inches (20 cm).
