WMF Liqueur Jug
This very elegant WMF Art Nouveau liqueur jug is decorated with an Iris design. The stems of the irises form a pierced metal mount and handle. It has an Art Nouveau swirling design. It is illustrated in Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork - WMF 1906 which is based on a reproduction of the WMF catalogue for 1906 and produced by the Antique Collectors Club. It is listed as number 418b on page 142. The firm WMF - Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik - was established in Esslingen and moved to Geislingen, Germany in 1880. WMF became strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau style between 1900 and 1914. The firm used silver electroplating techniques known as "perfect hard silver plating". It has the WMF mark and the Ostrich stamp as well as IO (oxidized) and B (best Brittania metal). It is in excellent condition although the surface of the rim of the lid is a little rough commensurate with its age. It is a beautiful piece of old WMF.
