Doulton Thomson A Hunting Rack Plate

This striking earthenware plate is decorated with the series ware pattern titled Hunting - Thomson A. It features two horseman galloping. The plate has a colourful border of stylised flowers and scrolls highlighted with enamel. The rim is edged with bright gilt. The series was based on illustrations by Hugh Thomson in the 1897 Pears Annual. It has the Doulton Burslem backstamp but the pattern number D2214 indicates that it was manufactured after 1905. The design was introduced in 1903 and withdrawn by 1928. The plate is lightly crazed commensurate with age. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition with no damage.
