Royal Doulton Gallant Fishers Plate
This earthenware Royal Doulton rack plate is decorated with the series ware pattern titled Gallant Fishers (Izaac Walton). It is based on characters from the book The Compleat Angler by Izaac Walton published in 1653. It features a profile of a man in spectacles examining his rod line. It has a willow tree border in green. Printed around the scene inside the border are the quotations "Of recreation, there is none so free as fishing is alone" and "None do here, use to swear, oaths do fray, fish away". The series was designed by CJ Noke and the plate has the facsimile signature for Noke. This design was introduced in 1901 and withdrawn by 1938. It has the special Izaac Walton Ware Royal Doulton backstamp and the earliest pattern number D2312. There is an impressed date stamp 7-24 indicating that it was manufactured in July 1924. There is some crazing and a small white area on the crown of his hat. Otherwise it is in good condition with no damage and rings very well.
