WMF Flower Vase
This small flower vase features a young girl standing on a fancy base. She is dressed in a dirndl and an apron. She has long plaits. She has one hand up to her mouth as if she is eating something and the other hand outstretched. The girl is standing beside half a tree stump. This acts as a holder for a fine crystal vase insert. It has a fluted shape with scalloped rim and is decorated with a delicate gilt pattern of flowers, stems and leaves. The rim is also edged with gilt. This item is illustrated in Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork - WMF 1906 which is based on a reproduction of the WMF catalogue for 1906 and produced by the Antique Collectors Club. It is listed as number 58 on page 104. It has the hallmarks WMF, I/O - regular silver coating and as - antique silver. The firm WMF - Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik - was established in Esslingen and moved to Geislingen, Germany in 1880. WMF became strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau style between 1900 and 1914. The firm used silver electroplating techniques known as "perfect hard silver plating". A glassworks section was introduced in 1883. The plating is in excellent condition with no damage and there is no damage to the vase. Measurements: Height girl - 4 inches (10 cm): Height vase - 4 1/2 inches (11 cm): Width base at front - 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cm).
