Wedgwood Fly Fishing Plate
This amusing earthenware plate has a green border with a motto that reads "He Whipped Day In He Whipped Day Out, But What He Caught Was Not A Trout". It is from the Fishermen Series after John Leech. It was first issued on tiles from 1882 to 1883 and then on plates from 1891 to 1910. The title Fly Fishing is just below the fisherman's left foot. On the base is a printed Wedgwood Etruria England backstamp, an impressed Wedgwood mark, a pattern number 4562 and printed T and K. The plate is slightly crazed commensurate with age but is otherwise in excellent condition with no damage and rings true when tapped. Measurement: Diameter - 10 inches (25 cm).
