Royal Worcester Double Cylinder Teapot
This very unusual double cylinder small teapot has a white background and is decorated with cobalt blue and gilt branches of flowers, buds and leaves. It also has 1 cm bands of cobalt and gilt around the top of the two cylinders. The handle is trimmed with a gilt feathery pattern. There is also a raised 5 mm band around the middle of the two cylinders finished with a half bow which can be seen in photograph 2. The top of the spout is edged with gilt as are the two lower rims. It has an unusual finial which resembles a stem and two berries as seen in photograph 3. The teapot was manufactured by Royal Worcester but it has no backstamp. There is an impressed shape number 367 which is too difficult to photograph and a tiny slightly blurred pattern number W211 which is shown. Henry Sandon's book "Royal Worcester Porcelain" confirms that the impressed pattern number 367 is for a "Double Cylinder Teapot" and that it was introduced in 1873 (page 176). However, the pattern number is not listed (page 137). The teapot is in excellent condition with no damage and rings very well. Measurements: Height taller pot – 4 inches (10 cm): Diameter taller pot – 2 ½ inches (6.5 cm): Length handle to spout – 7 inches (18 cm).
