Doulton Burslem Sepia Cottage Scene Plate
This plate features a cottage scene in sepia colour with a large tree in the foreground. It has a white background with touches of beige colour in the sky and a 3 cm beige colour border beneath the scalopped rim which is edged with gilt. It has the Doulton Burslem backstamp used between 1891 and 1901 and a registration number 72067 which dates manufacture to after 1887. There is a pattern number HB2237 which indicates that it was designed under the direction of Herbert (Harry) Betteley who was with Doulton from 1886 to 1930. He trained many artists and the initials on the plate appear to be those of Fannie Allen. It is in excellent condition with no damage and rings true when tapped. Measurement: Diameter - 9 inches (23 cm).
