Mabel Lucie Attwell Cottage Bowl
This delightful fine bone china bowl is decorated with an illustration by the well-known children's artist Mabel Lucie Attwell. It features a small cottage with a little girl at an open door talking to two fairies. The printed rhyme reads “If all the fairies came to tea, how very jolly that would be. They’d say ”hello”, I’d say “come in”, and then the fun would all begin”. The rim of the bowl is edged with mauve enamel. It has the facsimile signature of Mabel Lucie Attwell printed underneath the scene. The backstamp indicates that the bowl was manufactured between 1945 and 1966. There are some minor white spots on the thatched roof probably where the transfer has not taken. Otherwise the bowl is in excellent condition with no damage and rings true when tapped. Measurements: Height – 1 ¼ inches (3 cm): Diameter top – 5 ¼ inches (13.5 cm).
