Masons Ironstone China Plate with Butterflies
This very heavy Masons Ironstone china plate is decorated with a cobalt blue scalloped rim and features a series of butterflies in various poses and colours. These are interspersed with gilt flowers and leaves. The centre of the plate has a white background with a group of coloured flowers on stems with dark blue leaves. The plate is unusual because there are three hand-painted flowers are on the back of the rim. The backstamp indicates that it was manufactured between 1830 and 1848. There are two rough green spots on the rim near to two of the butterflies. Apart from this it is in excellent condition and rings very well.. Measurements: Diameter – 10 inches (26 cm).
