WMF Plate and Crystal Glass Butter Dish
This butter dish is illustrated in Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork - WMF 1906 which is based on a reproduction of the WMF catalogue for 1906 and produced by the Antique Collectors Club. It is listed as number 301 on page 245 and is described as Butter Dish - finely cut crystal glass, silver plated on best nickel silver mount. The firm WMF - Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik - was established in Esslingen and moved to Geislingen, Germany in 1880. WMF became strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau style between 1900 and 1914. The firm used silver electroplating techniques known as "perfect hard silver plating". It has the impressed mark for WMF, I/O - regular silver coating and OX - Oxidized. It is in excellent condition with no damage and rings very well. Measurements: Height to top finial - 4 1/2 inches (11 cm): Diameter base - 4 1/2 inches (11 cm): Weight - 14 oz (400 gm).
